It was just Luka “The Don” Doncic Magic’s birthday. He turned 25 years old. This must be how it feels when parents talk about how fast their toddlers age. The good times truly do just fly right on by. In honor of Luka’s birthday I think it might be time to go back and reflect on the brilliant career that has been Luka Doncic’s years before he was old enough to rent a car.

I remember when the Mavericks had the number 5 pick, and my best friend was probably annoyed about the amount of time I spent dreaming about how we had to draft this random what kid dominating a soccer league in basketball. I always saw what could have been, and I’m not just saying that now that he’s good. I have text receipts to show it. I’m not about to dig up six years of text conversations to prove it but just know I always wanted this wonderkin out of Europe damnit. And I don’t exactly fancy myself as some sort of scouting expert. I believed in Luka and that’s the only time I’ve been right, besides the fact I did think Lively would be a good fit, but who gives a shit.

For starters by the age of 18 Luka had become champion and MVP of the second best league in the entire world. That’s actually insane. He was still a child. He didn’t hardly miss a beat showing up into the NBA either. He showed up right away and was clearly far more advanced than everyone in that draft class by a long shot. That draft for the Mavericks might go down as one of the best individual drafts of all time. The Mavericks selected Luka and Jalen Brunson at the same damn time. Absolutely incredible. Luka went on to win rookie of the year.

Luka also went on to go up against a simple task of back to back playoff rounds against Kawhi and PG at the age of 20 and 21 years old. Luka would eventually lose both of those series which is totally fair for a challenge of that caliber, but would finish the second time leading the NBA in playoff points per game all time. That’s not bad for a child going up against a defensive player of the year and another 1st team defender without any help. The next year Luka single handily carried his team to the western conference finals after completely destroying the best team in the nba at the moment in game 7. Fuck you Devin Booker you will never compare to Luka and his greatness. And that’s okay Devin you’ve done great things, Luka is just better.

Luka turns 25 while being 3rd all time in points, 1st all time in 3 pointers, 7th all time in assists. I would say he is off to a pretty decent start to his career. On his 25th birthday Luka passed Lebron James for 3rd all time in 30 point triple doubles in NBA history. Every other player in the top 4 is over 1000 games played, and yet Luka still hasn’t hit 400. No big deal. Analysts still don’t want to sit back and appreciate the greatness that is Luka, but I have a feeling he will make everyone shut the fuck up soon enough leaving no doubt left to sit back and be amazed.

Happy Birthday young goat enjoy everything the world has to offer you today.
