The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Is the Cowboys plan for the future running back the same group expecting them to over achieve next year? There are multiple major flaws with this team that aren’t going to be fixed this offseason because clearly Jerry Jones is becoming weak and doesn’t truly want to create a winner in Dallas.
I firmly believe business and marketing wise it is impossible to argue Jerry Jones is the best owner in all of sports. The Cowboys haven’t been relevant in 30 years, and still to this day they are the most talked about franchise. Jerry Jones is on top of the marketing Mt Rushmore next to Steve Jobs and Kris Jenner. Sadly that doesn’t translate to wins. I believe the number one flaw with this current regime is that Jerry Jones wants to hire yes men. Ever since the fallout with Jimmy Johnson, Jerry doesn’t relinquish control to anyone. It took Troy Aikman calling him out on national television to finally get Jimmy into the Cowboys ring of honor. Jimmy had already been anointed into the National Football Hall of Fame. There is no way on the planet that the cowboys ring of honor is more prestigious, that is strictly stubbornness.
Last weekend the cowboys came out more flat than any other team in the playoffs. Yes the packers looked more formidable opponent than initially thought of, but that is still no excuse for the effort put forth by Dallas. I believe motivation and preparedness comes directly from coaching. Does a Bellicheck, Vrabel, Campbell, Harbaugh coached team come out flat like that? Jerry Jones likes to hire yes men. Jason Garrett stayed way longer than he should and McCarthy is going to spend one extra year more than he deserves. You can argue that Big Mike has done a good job coaching leading the Cowboys to good overall records year after year which is true. But there is no denying that the cowboys looked like they didn’t belong in the game they played against the packers last Sunday. Becoming the first ever 2 seed to lose to a 7 seed in NFL history. (Even though they just started letting 7 seeds in a couple of years ago it’s still an incredibly embarrassing stat.) Not firing McCarthy is a tragedy on multiple levels. The first being that this is probably the strongest free agent coaching portal maybe of all time with literally the greatest coach of all time being available. The second part being this is the last year of McCarthys deal which will ultimately lead to so much media distraction this year it’s insane.
The second biggest problem facing the Dallas Cowboys organization is the fact that Dak Prescott is not the fucking guy. I have never seen someone more scared to start a playoff game in my life. He had no business being on that field on Sunday. CeeDee was visible upset with him from the jump and rightfully so. Dak is a great human being. He has dealt with so much loss and adversity in his personal life, and I applaud him for that. That doesn’t make you a great football player though. Dak’s two worst games last year were against the 49ers in prime time and in the playoffs against the Packers. Dak tricks his fans. I almost bought back into him being a good quarterback this year. After the 49ers game you can ask my friends I was looking at every teams roster trying to find a replacement and then he went on a great run trying to trick us into thinking he’s a good player. However, whenever the lights get the brightest he crumples. The first half of that game was a total embarrassment. That was an unacceptable performance from a player about to demand the type of contract he is about to receive. I’m not saying I have a solution, but you can’t argue that it’s not a problem.
My tin foil hat intuition makes me think Jerry Jones knows keeping McCarthy and Dak on the final years of their deals will keep the Cowboys in the super stratosphere about being the most talked about team, which ultimately means more dollars. He is after all the ultimate marketing genius, and clearly cares about dollars more than wins, and bringing back those two guys will lead to the most talked about scenario.

Sadly that doesn’t translate to wins. I believe the number one flaw with Jerry Jones is that he hires yes men. Ever since the fallout with Jimmy Johnson Jerry doesn’t hire alpha men. It took Troy Aikman vouching for Jimmy on national television for coach after he had already made the Hall of Fame for Jerry to finally let him into the ring of honor.
I believe the biggest problem, right now facing the cowboys is coaching. The team came out flatter than a thin crust pizza last week. There is no excuse for the gameplay that happened last week. And that starts with Big Mike. The team was clearly not prepared for what was about to happen. Jerry only likes to hire yes men ever since the fallout with Jimmy. This is the best free agent coaching year in NFL history headlined by literally the greatest coach of all time, and Jerry thinks it’s best to literally bring back Mike? That is clearly malpractice. Bellicheck, Vrabel, or Harbaough could turn this franchise around into a winner, but why would we want that?
The second biggest flaw with this organization is the fact that Dak is not the guy. I believe he is a great man. He has dealt with plenty of adversity in his personal life and carries himself with a lot of character. That doesn’t make you a great football player. My dad is a great man, he is also in a wheelchair which means he isn’t a great football player, and that’s okay. Dak’s two worst games this year were the game against the 49ers in primetime and the playoff game which he looked horrible in both. When the lights get the brightest Dak crumbles. He tricks people into thinking he’s a good quarterback with good play against bad teams when it doesn’t matter. He can’t be the answer.
My tin foil hat believes Jerry wants to keep McCarthy and Dak on the last year of their contracts to keep them being the most talked about team in the nation. Every win and lose will result in articles talking about extend them or cut them lose. Which from a marketing stand point is brilliant. But missing out on this batch of coaches is just malpractice at this point, and shouldn’t be tolerated by cowboys fans.
