This morning I wrote are blog titled “Are the Mavs Fucked?” Good thing for us Luka answered the question tonight.
First of all the man came out with a skinny headband on ready to dominate all defenders in his path. He hit his first 4 threes before pulling up from just half court for a heat check that didn’t go in, but that didn’t stop him from dominating everything that happened on the hardwood today. The first quarter he finished with a calm 16/5/5 becoming the first player with a 10/5/5 quarter all season.
The second quarter was more of the same from the man whose stats are already reaching mythical proportions at the ripe age of 24 years old. He posted another 13/5/5 in the second quarter which brought him to 29/10/10 for the first half becoming the first player in NBA history to have a triple double with 25 or more points in the first half of a game. He clearly knew he was getting close passing up open shots to feed Lively easy buckets in the paint for assists securing the 10th assist and final piece of the triple double on a lob to the rookie sensation.
Luka posted his 60th career triple double tonight putting him in sole possession for 9th all time passing another white baller legend Larry Bird. Ever heard of him? Yes that man. Luka just passed him before even reaching the age where he would have to get off of his parent’s health insurance.
Luka finished with a modest 40 point triple double while posting a +/- of 34 in only 32 minutes. I’m not sure I could pull that shit off in NBA 2K24 on the easiest setting. It is just absurd what this wonderkid is able to do, and people still try and compare Devin Booker (who just choked another elimination game technically) or Jayson Tatum. Only Jokic is capable of pulling off the things Luka can do on a nightly basis.
People will try and say the injury riddled Utah Jazz team isn’t very good. Which is an argument that I’m not capable of disputing; however, when someone is doing things that have literally never been done before it shouldn’t be taken for granted. The Mavericks as a whole also finished two points shy of their franchise record of points in a regulation game.
I get it this may seem like a Dallas Cowboys type of performance. Beating up on bad teams seems to be what all Dallas teams do best for example everyone the Cowboys play or the Texas Rangers against the Astros in the ALCS. Anytime you beat an NBA team by 50 points should not be taken lightly though. When Luka is this dialed in no one can stop him, and when teams try to double him he will find the open man and make the right play.
This was a great win for a Dallas team missing arguably three of their top five defenders with injuries. Skinny headband & new girl dad Luka is a player that the rest of the league should be fearful of. HalleLuka.
