Outside of Dallas, Texas it is a universal rule for all sports fans to hate Dallas sports. I’m on a mission to uncover why that is.
The cowboys are everyone’s favorite team to hate on no matter how good or bad. Steven A Smith a famous knicks fans who are obviously known for how competent of a franchise they are loves to hate on the cowboys for losing every chance he gets. Bart Scott thought it was funny to laugh at Trevon Diggs tearing his ACL which coming from a former player is about as low as it gets. Everyone does it except for Skip Bayless who makes a living on being despised by everyone so I’m not sure that exactly helps the cause.
There is no reason that a team that hasn’t been to a Super Bowl in 30 years to get this much attention and hatred from everyone. There are so many teams that haven’t won over an extended period of time and most of them are what you would expect, completely ignored by everyone.
Is it because we have extended periods of being a pretty talented team, but never claiming the top spot at the end of the season? Then why doesn’t anyone talk about the Chargers? They’ve wasted more talent over the last 25 years than any other franchise in the NFL. And people still worship Justin Herbert like he isn’t the same guy who blew a 27 point lead in the playoffs to the perennial powerhouse Jacksonville Jaguars. If Dak Prescott would’ve done that there would be a Bin Laden level attack on him by everyone across the country.
Is it because of the fans who are actually passionate and support their franchise? If the fans are the problem then the Philadelphia Eagles should be public enemy number 1. Every single week a video of a child eagles fan flipping off people goes viral, and they’re loved for it. Like raising more assholes should be praised in a city called “brotherly love”. Give me a fucking break. The Chiefs most famous fan has a documentary about his life as an actual bank robber and everyone thinks it’s fucking awesome. I don’t understand.
Is Jerry Jones the problem? He isn’t exactly an example of perfect moral character I understand that. He may have some issue without relinquishing control over decision making sometimes, sure. When it comes to marketing he is above and beyond the clear number 1 owner in all of sports. He is on the Mount Rushmore of marketing next to Steve Jobs, Kris Jenner, and Ozempic at this point and there’s no debate. I believe he has turned a corner though. Finally putting Jimmy Johnson in the ring of honor shows some sign of humility, even if it is a couple of decades late.
I think the answer is obvious and said best by James Franco in The Interview “They hate us cause they ain’t us.”
